LG Energy Solution is here to answer all your questions about our company and batteries! In this episode of “Ask anything, LG Energy Solution will answer,” where we address your questions directly, we’ll explore how LG Energy Solution Wrocław is contributing to local development in Poland.
LG Energy Solution’s Wrocław plant was built in 2016 to respond to the increasing demand for batteries in the European market and to strengthen the battery maker’s global competitiveness. As of 2023, it stood as the largest battery production facility in Europe, with an annual production capacity of approximately 86 GWh. Currently, the plant supplies batteries to major European electric vehicle manufacturers, utilizing smart factory technology to maximize production efficiency.
The Wrocław plant plays a proactive role in the development of local communities in Poland. As one of the largest private employers in Dolny Śląsk (Lower Silesia), it creates numerous jobs, contributing to a reduction in unemployment in the area. Additionally, through stable and solid corporate operation, LG Energy Solution has fostered strong, mutually beneficial relationships with many partner companies, creating a robust business ecosystem. This has attracted other companies to the area, further boosting the local economy.
LG Energy Solution is also proactively involved in various initiatives for the local community. One of them is the establishment of “UL Kindergarten,” which provides education for the children of employees and residents of the Kobierzyce municipality. This educational infrastructure benefits people in the local community as well as the employees’ families, which eventually contributes to the development of the local community.
Moreover, LG Energy Solution is supporting local talent development. Through academic partnerships with universities in the Dolny Śląsk, the company engages in various research projects, education programs, and workshops.
As part of this commitment, LG Energy Solution donated PLN 600,000 (approximately USD 152,000) in 2022 to establish a new E-Mobility Laboratory at Wrocław University of Science and Technology (WUST). This investment provided over 200 students with the opportunity to study and research using advanced systems.
The company also sponsored the Biohackathon* event held at Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) in May 2024. Participating students developed solutions for waste recycling and explored new avenues for a circular economy by applying biological concepts.
*Hackathon: A combination of “hacking” and “marathon,” it is an event where participants develop ideas and solve problems within a limited time frame.
As such, LG Energy Solution Wrocław proactively contributes to the discovery and development of promising talent in Poland through collaboration with the local community.
The company is also making significant efforts in diverse areas to develop and improve local infrastructure. By supporting projects for the expansion of gas and water supply networks in Kobierzyce and the reconstruction of the DW 348 road as well as DK 35 and DW 344 intersections, LG Energy Solution is enhancing convenience for local residents and improving transportation infrastructure in the area.
LG Energy Solution Wrocław’s contribution goes beyond the local community. It is also making a substantial influence on Poland’s national economy. In 2022, the plant paid approximately PLN 550 million in corporate taxes, bolstering the country’s finances, and its contribution was recognized with the reception of the prestigious TOP CIT 2022 Awards.
