LG Energy Solution is playing all over the place in overseas markets as a global battery maker! Among the many plants of LG Energy Solution, the Troy Plant in the U.S. is the place for research and development of batteries in North America. All members there are working hard to develop the best batteries. This time, an employee of the Troy Plant will walk through every aspect of his daily work routine!
(Jaeho Lee, Cell Development Team)
Hi! I’m Jaeho Lee and the first to introduce you in the Season 2 of Relay Virtual Tour. I work at the Cell Development Team of LG Energy Solution Troy.
I joined LG Energy Solution because I wanted to play a part in the battery industry. The growth of the secondary battery industry had drawn my attention naturally to LG Energy Solution, a leader in the industry. So, I acted as a member of “Better Leaders,” one of LG Energy Solution’s extra activities, when I was a college student and applied for open recruitment for new employees later.
Now, I am going to introduce what LG Energy Solution Troy is like by showing you my work routine. Come with me!
The workplace of the Cell Development Team of LG Energy Solution instantly lets visitors know it belongs to a global battery company
(Jaeho Lee, Cell Development Team)
I came to the office of Troy Plant, relishing the clear sky on the way! There are 4 of us including me in the Cell Development Team, with all the members working on cell development. The battery development process consists of many performance and stability verifications as well as design, and my team’s job is verification at the cell unit level.
I’m working hard to learn about the ongoing programs and to adapt to work fast through meetings. I’m working even harder because I’m going to take charge of 2 programs soon.
Let’s look at other places, too! LG Energy Solution Troy has places that sound very much like battery company’s: the meeting rooms. The meeting rooms of LG Energy Solution Troy are named after battery components, which are Electrode, Anode, Cathode, and Ion. Perfect names for the offices of a global battery company, right? Today, I have a meeting with our clients in the Ion room!
[A Mini Interview] Meeting the members of the Cell Development Team of Troy Plant!
(Jaeho Lee, Cell Development Team)
It’s afternoon now. I’m going to have a talk with Cell Development Team members about work, such as what they do.
(Seungjae Yoon, Cell Development Team)
Hi. I’m Seungjae Yoon and I work at the Cell Development Team of LG Energy Solution Troy. I’m with the Cell Development Team as an expatriate, and my job is to closely communicate with our North American customers and to support local battery production.
What we need at the Cell Development Team of Troy Plant is multitasking abilities. At the headquarters, there are more people and their work is all segmented into specialized, specific parts. In contrast, local plants have fewer people and members have to play their roles as multiplayers.
Another thing that is important for cell development is communication skills. We have to coordinate differences among the Production, Technology and Sales teams, and have to suggest an opinion in one voice when we meet our customers.
(Jaemin Sohn, Cell Development Team)
Hi! I’m Jaemin Sohn of the Cell Development Team. My job is customer response on the 4Ms of cell models in North America, and I closely communicate with relevant departments of Troy Plant as I do my job.
To work as a member of the Cell Development Team at Troy Plant, you need the general knowledge of products. In particular, the will to continuously get diverse kinds of knowledge is imperative.
(Jaeho Lee, Cell Development Team)
You must have some concerns or stories working at an overseas plant. How do you like living here?
(Seungjae Yoon, Cell Development Team)
I’ve been working at Troy Plant for 3 years already. Living here is as convenient as in Korea! I worried much about infrastructure such as private institutes and hospitals, since I came with my family. But there are a lot of Korean-staffed restaurants that offer a variety of foods to eat, and Korean-staffed hospitals are well equipped. Plus, Troy is a neighborhood with high enthusiasm for education, and has a good education environment. I’m really satisfied with my life at Troy Plant.
Troy Plant, complete with various kinds of research equipment and relaxation places
(Jaeho Lee, Cell Development Team)
Now, let me show you a research laboratory of Troy Plant! These labs have equipment for different experiments. Above all, you need to wear safety goggles in a lab, because you should be extra careful about safety.
Today’s experiment is performance and stability verification. You should thoroughly check if the battery works well when developing cells, modules and packs, as well as if the battery life is secured.
I finished today’s test without a problem!
(Jaeho Lee, Cell Development Team)
There are largely 2 buildings in Troy Plant. First is the research building for closely researching and testing batteries. The other one with a pronounced LG Energy Solution logo hanging in front of it is the main building where offices for its members are located.
The path I am now on is the walking trail for members. The landscape is really good and the lush greenery is impressive! Also, the environment around the Troy Plant is so clean that it serves as a habitat for ducks. You can see ducks leisurely strolling while walking along the trail.
We looked at how they are doing and how the workplaces look at the Cell Development Team of LG Energy Solution Troy. Where would be our next virtual tour destination? You can look forward to it!
