LG Energy Solution is operating or building eight production plants across North America, taking proactive steps as a global technology leader. In particular, it is constructing its second stand-alone plant in Arizona, United States, with a vision to develop it into a future key manufacturing hub. In today’s World Battery Tour, we explore the regional features of Arizona and LG Energy Solution’s footprint in the state.

Arizona, Land of Breathtaking Natural Heritage
Arizona is located in the southwestern United States, with Phoenix as its capital. It borders Utah to the north, New Mexico to the east, and California and Nevada to the west. Among others, the Colorado River, which begins in the Rocky Mountains of northern Colorado, flows near the state. Because of its location, Arizona has an arid climate and features varied natural landscapes, such as plateaus, mesas, mountains, and deserts.

Arizona is well known for its desert climate and the natural landscapes it shapes. One of the most notable natural heritage sites in northern Arizona is the Grand Canyon. Formed by the erosion of the Colorado River on the northwestern plateau, the Grand Canyon was designated a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 1979. Shaped over millions of years, the canyon’s majestic and breathtaking scenery continues to attract visitors from around the world.
Arizona offers many other natural heritage sites beyond the Grand Canyon. Antelope Canyon, a narrow and deep canyon recognized for its stunning beauty, and Saguaro National Park, designated to protect the native saguaro cactus, are also found in Arizona.
Thanks to its abundance of natural heritage, Arizona attracts many tourists, but it is also home to about 7 million residents. With few natural disasters like earthquakes or typhoons, the state is considered a pleasant and livable region.
LG Energy Solution to Produce Next-Generation 46-Series Batteries in Arizona

Arizona is actively attracting global investment, and LG Energy Solution has leveraged the opportunity to establish its presence in Arizona. In April 2024, the company began construction on its second stand-alone battery plant in the United States. Land preparations and groundbreaking have been completed, and construction is well underway.

The Arizona plant will be LG Energy Solution’s first dedicated cylindrical battery manufacturing facility, with an annual production capacity reaching 36 GWh. It is scheduled to begin operations in 2026 and will produce 46-series batteries for EVs.
The 46-series battery has attracted strong interest from major global customers due to its many advantages. It offers more than six times the energy capacity of conventional cylindrical batteries, along with enhanced energy density, power output, and space efficiency. Additionally, fewer processing steps per unit of energy lead to higher production efficiency.
LG Energy Solution aims to position the Arizona facility as a key production hub in North America for the upcoming expansion of the EV market. The global cylindrical battery market is expected to grow continuously, and LG Energy Solution is preparing for the future. The company is expanding its product portfolio and creating differentiated customer value based on its technological leadership, driving continued growth in the global market.
Stay tuned to see how LG Energy Solution is driving change with innovative batteries made in the Arizona production plant! Next on the World Battery Tour, we’ll explore another country where LG Energy Solution is making an impact!
