Thanks to her newfound pastime of mermaid diving, she has revitalized her life and enhanced her work performance. Now, let’s dive into Sang-jin Oh’s Charging Moment! Shall we get started?
Hello! My name is Sang-jin Oh, and I work at the Smart Factory Development Team at LG Energy Solution in Nanjing, China. I’m excited to tell you about my special hobby, mermaid diving!
Mermaid diving requires a few essential pieces of equipment, including a mermaid fin (monofin), a diving mask, and a mermaid tail. I have already acquired all these items for my dives!
I’ve honed several techniques to master mermaid diving. The first technique is the dolphin kick, which helps me propel myself through the water using only the movement of my mermaid fin and feet. The second technique, duck diving, requires swimming on the surface and then folding my body to dive deep into the water. The third technique involves performing a 360-degree backflip turn while swimming, which I find to be the most beautiful of all.
I started mermaid diving in 2021, and it has already been two years since I began. At that time, I was looking for a new hobby to learn. One of my colleagues recommended mermaid diving, and I was instantly captivated by its charm and decided to start.
I enjoy exercising so much that I visit the on-site gym in my company’s welfare center at least twice a week because it keeps me fit and makes me feel refreshed. I think that mermaid diving, in particular, holds more allure for me than other sports. Its charm comes from not needing to breathe as frequently as in swimming, which allows divers to enjoy the underwater atmosphere by holding their breath for slightly over a minute. Another charm is that, under the water, you can see the world from a new perspective.
My original MBTI type was INFP, and I was extremely introverted. But I’ve become a very extroverted ENTP since I started mermaid diving. Now, it’s easier for me to collaborate with engineers from other departments. People around me often tell me that my emotional intelligence (EQ) has significantly increased and that I have become more proactive in interpersonal relationships.
I hope mermaid diving becomes a more common exercise. It’s because mermaid diving helps me with my mental health and also gives me a different perspective on the world. If an in-house mermaid diving club is established at LG Energy Solution in the future, I would be excited to serve as the club president and dedicate myself to its success.
We’ve explored how Sang-jin Oh rejuvenates her energy by indulging in mermaid diving after work so far. This light-hearted hobby has not only revitalized her life but also invigorated her work life. Stay tuned for the next episode of Charging Moment!
